Describing your language proficiency

Below are ways to describe your language proficiency. (How good you are at a language.)

I am a beginner / I have a basic knowledge (or understanding) of…

I am an intermediate speaker / I have an intermediate knowledge (or understanding) of…

I am an advanced speaker / I have an advanced/comprehensive/extensive knowledge of…

I am a fluent speaker / I can speak … fluently.

I am a native speaker / … is my mother tongue.

 

EXAMPLE (ME)

I am a native speaker of English, it’s my mother tongue. I have an intermediate knowledge of Spanish and French and I know a bit of Chinese and some other languages (my ability in these last ones is basic – I am a beginner).
